UNIT 06 · LESSON 16

Things that did not happen

Say what did not happen, and compare three tenses.

By the end of this lessonMake a past sentence negative and tell the present, past, and future apart.

The idea

Put ne- before the past verb: Ez neçûm (I did not go), Tu nehatî (You did not come), Ew neçû (He / she did not go). Compare three tenses of çûn: Ez diçim (I go), Ez çûm (I went), and Ez dê biçim (I will go).

See it in a sentence

Ez neçûm.I did not go.
Tu nehatî.You did not come.
Duh ew neçû.Yesterday he / she did not go.
Em nehatin.We did not come.

Ne- now appears in two places: the past negative (neçûm) and the future negative (dê nexwînim). The present negative is the one that uses na-.
