Small lessons. Solid foundations.
A guided introduction to Kurmanji, in the Latin alphabet.
How the course works
Follow the lessons in order: recognize the letters, choose your pronouns, form a sentence, make it negative, express possession, describe an action, count to ten, greet someone, ask questions, say where something is, talk about more than one thing, say what you do now, say what you will do, talk about the past, and say who did what. Each lesson has one objective, worked examples, and several questions with explanations.
Learn freely
All lessons are open. Repeat any exercise, or skip to something you want to practice. Results last only while you are here; refreshing starts a fresh session.
About the curriculum
This is an introductory sequence, not a complete or accredited proficiency course. Grammar topics are cross-checked against W. M. Thackston’s Kurmanji Kurdish: A Reference Grammar. Lesson sequencing and exercises are written for Kurdîzan. A qualified Kurmanji educator should review the material before classroom use.
Where we go next
Continue with units 10–22: oblique pronouns, xwe, wanting and ability, relative clauses with ku, the Divêtî, Fermanî, Hekanî and Bilanî moods, and Daçek adpositions; active and passive voice; oblique noun endings, conjunctions and numbers up to 1000. Then study adjectives and four past forms in depth: têdeyî, dûdar, berdest and çîroka têdeyî. Then combine these ideas in the reading and sentence-transformation workshops in Activities. Vocabulary games and dialogues remain available.
