UNIT 08 · LESSON 19
Meet the family
Words for the people closest to you.
By the end of this lessonTalk about family members using the possessive ezafe.
The idea
Key family words: dayik (mother, feminine), bav (father, masculine), bira (brother, masculine), xwişk (sister, feminine), zarok (child), malbat (family, feminine). Since dayik and xwişk are feminine, they take the -a ezafe: dayika min (my mother), xwişka te (your sister). Bav and bira are masculine, so they take -ê: bavê min (my father), birayê min (my brother).
See it in a sentence
dayika minmy mother
bavê minmy father
xwişka teyour sister
birayê wîhis brother
Remember that nouns with a vowel ending like bira take -yê: birayê min.
