UNIT 03 · LESSON 8
Saying hello and goodbye
A few phrases for everyday moments.
By the end of this lessonGreet someone, ask how they are, and say goodbye.
The idea
Silav is a common way to say hello, and roj baş means good day. To ask “How are you?” to one person, say Tu çawa yî? — çawa ends in a vowel, so tu takes the yî form you already know from the to-be lesson. Bi xatirê te is a common way to say goodbye to one person; te is the same “your” you met in the possession lesson.
See it in a sentence
Silav!Hello!
Roj baş.Good day.
Tu çawa yî?How are you?
Ez baş im, spas.I’m fine, thanks.
Bi xatirê te.Goodbye.
Spas means thank you. You can answer Tu çawa yî? with Ez baş im, spas — “I’m fine, thanks” — using the to-be pattern from an earlier lesson.
